The Ridderzaal dates back to the 13 th Century Count of Holland, Floris IV. It is used annually for the formal opening of Parliament, an event led by the monarch, who travels in the Gouden Koets (“Golden Coach”). The Koning or Koningin then delivers the speech outlining the intentions of the government in the parliamentary session from the throne inside the Ridderzaa l.
