The Ridderzaal (Knight’s Hall) is a 13 th Century building that is located in the courtyard side of the collection of buildings called the Binnenhof. Each year, on Prinsjesdag (“Prince’s Day”), the monarch travels in the Gouden Koets (“Golden Coach”) from the Noordeinde Paleis (“North End Palace”) to deliver a speech to parliament from the throne inside. The speech, similar to the opening of the British Parliament, summarizes the anticipated legislation to be dealt with for that year.
