Bruynzeel

The rebuilding of the factory was completed in 1920 and Bruynzeel became a very prominent company in the city of Zaandam. The other major entity in town was the Verkade chocolate and bakery company. That firm was started by Ericus Gerhardus Verkade (1835-1907), who was the son of Ericus Gerhardus Verkade (1801-1835), and had a son named Ericus Gerhardus Verkade (1868-1927), who took over the company from his father. After his move to Zaandam, Kees Bruynzeel met Titia Verkade, the granddaughter of the Verkade founder and daughter of the company’s president/CEO. They were married in 1922. Kees Bruynzeel would later sit on the board of Verkade himself.
