One of the unique articles in the living room was an old Staten Bijbel (literally “State Bible”, the Dutch equivalent of the Authorized Version of the King James Bible in England“). Where Leendert acquired the Bible remains a mystery, although at least two scenarios have been proposed. One option seems to be that he simply bought it in an antique store. The second possibility that has been postulated is that Leendert received it from the Pilgrim Church in Delfshaven where it served as the pulpit Bible. The name inside seems to be “Anna Gijben”
