Five Brothers and a War

1938 German Vacation

The summer of 1938 saw another van Pelt trip to Germany for their annual holiday. They motored to Andernach, a city on the banks of the Rhein River in Germany. The city is about 18 km (11 miles) from the town of Remagen, which would play a pivotal role in March 1945 as the Allies swept across the river into the German heartland.

Remagen is just to the north of, and down river from, Andernach.
