Five Brothers and a War
Czechoslovakia
In March 1939, Hitler completed the last of his bloodless takeovers through a series of maneuvers in Czechoslovakia. Hitler already had the Sudetenland. Portions of the nation were carved out and given to Poland and Hungary as promised. Then Hitler told the leaders of the Slovak side of the nation that they needed to declare independence from the greater nation, in exchange for German protection. They agreed, and therefore there was not a huge amount of Czechoslovakia left. He then met with the Czech leader, and after hours of threats by Hitler and groveling by the Czech, an agreement was reached whereby Germany would take over the country. Then Hitler fabricated a request from Slovakia for protection. This all combined to allow Hitler to take over all of Czechoslovakia.
