Five Brothers and a War

Atlantikwall

Beginning in early 1942, Hitler ordered the construction of the Atlantikwall —fortifications that would prevent continental invasion by Allied forces. Its lines stretched from Norway to the Franco-Spanish border. In the Den Haag area, this led to an April decree that beach access to Scheveningen, Kijkduin, and everything in between would be prohibited. This in turn led to a May order for mass evacuations of all buildings close to the coast. A few months later, in October, this exclusion zone, called the Sperrgebiet , was expanded.
