Five Brothers and a War
V-2 Rocket
The first two V-2 launches, from the extreme eastern part of Belgium, just north of Luxembourg, were attempted on September 6. Both failed. The first successful launches occurred the following day from a slightly different spot in Petites Tailles , Belgium, and had Paris as the target. Thereafter, London was also targeted. Beginning September 8, and frequently thereafter, one of the launch sites was in Wassenaar at the intersection of the Lijsterlaan, Konijnenlaan and Koekoekslaan.
The intersection of the three streets where the first V-2 was launched from Holland. The memorial monument is shown with the yellow cap, left of center between the two large tree trunks. It reads, in Dutch and English, “On September 8, 1944, the first V-2 rocket bomb was launched from this site.”
