Minimum requirements to join SS: 1.78 m (5’-10”), normal eyesight without glasses, etc. In recent times, the Lebensborn program ha s created a crisis in Germany among those children, who are often only now finding out that their fathers were Nazis, or war criminals, or both. The program was also exported outside of Germany during the war, with the estimate of such babies in Norway (another blond and blue-eyed nation) at more than 12,000. Early in 1945, Wim was injured in an Allied bombing attack while he was in Germany. He was trapped for hours with his foot caught under a steel beam. He was rescued, though his foot was severely injured, and was then sent back to Holland to allow his foot to recuperate. To do this, he had to enter Holland through the mid-country section, as southern Holland had already been liberated. As he left, Wim was offered a full-time stud job when he returned—no more trash collection. Wim then made his way straight back to Margrietstraat 20, where he hid for the rest of the war—at least all but a few weeks at the very end. The issue was that the van Rossum
