Five Brothers and a War
Indigostraat Disaster—January 1, 1945
Prior to moving to the Margrietstraat in 1936, the van Pelt family lived in two separate homes on the Tomatenstraat. A few years after the van Pelts moved off that street, the van der Lecqs moved onto it—to Tomatenstraat 85. The van der Lecqs had previously lived at Hendrik van Deventerstraat 180, the home in which Flora and her three siblings were born. They maintained a friendship with the next door neighbors, who lived at unit 182.
The van der Lecq family lived at Hendrik van Deventerstraat 180, which is the first door on the left, right behind the bicycle. The neighbor friends lived at the next door a meter further in unit 182.

As a true coin cidence, Immie Tadema (who married Jan in 1949) was born just a few doors down from the van der Lecqs at Hendrik van Deventerstraat 129. Unbeknownst to one another, the two future sisters in-law were born and lived (for a short time) only 30 meters apart.
