Five Brothers and a War
Homecoming
van Pelt
Jan’s two month journey home started April 19, 1945 from Tübingen, Germany, where he had been enslaved for almost two years. The first part of his trip took him through the Black Forest and out of Germany. He then went to Paris for a time, then had to wait in Toulouse, in the southern area of France. Finally, when the war was over, and travel was safe, if not easy, he was permitted to head through France to Belgium, then into the Dutch city of Eindhoven. At the same time Jan made it to Eindhoven, Leen travelled from Den Haag to Eindhoven for some reason, and visited Hes, Bets and Jan. Two days later, Jan was recorded as working on the land, while Leen departed for the town of Goes, about 100 kilometers away, in the southwestern part of Holland.
