Five Brothers and a War

Postscript: Cornelis (“Kees”) van Pelt

After leaving the insurance business, Kees began his own little company called “Visual Selling Systems”. This often brought two interests to the fore—the visual part of marketing and the building of scale models. These models were built in the basement of the house in Richmond Hill, Ontario. They ranged from apartment buildings to office towers to summer cottages. One model was for a major residential in the Caribbean island of Grenada, and another was for a yacht. Sometimes they were miniaturized—a product called “Mini-models”—used either for fundraising purposes or for tourists.

One of Kees’ typical architectural scale models, which included the background painting. This one is for a weekend/ vacation cottage in Ontario. The detail painting on the model and the landscaping were usually done by Flora.
