While the street, and the entire surrounding neighborhood, is highly built-up today, it was not that way until after the war when a housing bonanza was needed to find shelter for the tens of thousands of people who were displaced either by forced evacuations in the construction of the Atlantikwall through Den Haag, or through all of the acts of war. From 1936 until after the end of the 1940s, the street was at the edge of town. Below is a rendering of the area when the van Pelts moved into the neighborhood.
