Five Brothers and a War
Margrietstraat 20—Ground Floor
Hanging on the wall above the rug was a wooden, pendulum-driven hangklok (“hanging clock”).
van Pelt
Like the other rugs, this has been well worn over the past eight decades. This small rug is 79 cm (2’-7”) wide x 128 cm (4’-2”) long. It was just inside the entry door, next to the bench and telephone table. While they were called “Persian”, this was intended to cover the generic term often referred to as “Oriental”, a term that is equally inaccurate. The rugs used in the van Pelt house were Turkish in origin, as can be noted from their strong geometric, rather than floral, designs.
