Jan’s Enslavement in Germany
Jan, in a photo apparently taken by the German farmer’s daughter. Over the years, the stress and trauma of this period, certainly including his liberation at the hands of the Moroccans and French, took a toll on the mind and health of Jan. He almost never spoke of the day of his liberation. Of course, the Allied bombing raids and incursions into Germany prior to that liberation also led to his stress and anxiety levels being raised.

An apparent double-exposure, as the house in the background is precisely the same image as on the previous page, but this one has Jan watering as the double-exposure. The photographer forgot to advance the film before taking the next shot, which was very possible to do on cameras of the day.
