Five Brothers and a War

A Grateful Nation

As a result of the sacrifices of the Canadians in liberating Holland, and in light of their hosting and protecting their future queens, Juliana and Beatrix, throughout the duration of the war, the Dutch were extremely grateful. The relationship between the two nations has remained very close after seven decades. Even today, Americans travelling in Holland will put Canadian flags on their luggage or clothes in order to garner higher respect from the Dutch. The gratitude was instantaneous, heartfelt, and long lasting.
